SCHD Dividend Yield: Official Rate, Income Examples and Downloadable History
SCHD's latest issuer-published trailing distribution yield is 3.13%, dated July 31, 2026. Its 30-day SEC yield is 3.16%, dated September 4, 2026. These are the values displayed by Schwab Asset Management when checked on September 9, 2026, with different measurement dates. Schwab SCHD product page
For a more recent market-price calculation, the four distributions in the trailing year total $1.0480 per share. Dividing by $34.41, the September 8, 2026 closing price displayed on Schwab's quote page, gives 3.0456%, or 3.05% rounded. This is our calculation, separate from Schwab's published 3.13%. How to calculate SCHD dividend yield
Schwab defines its TTM distribution yield as the preceding 12 months' income distributions divided by the last month's ending NAV, excluding distributed capital gains. A calculation using a later market price has a different denominator and date. The published 3.13% is quoted here, not independently reconstructed from July's NAV. Schwab data definitions
To reproduce our market-price calculation:
- Open the CSV and choose the measurement date. For September 8, 2026, select ex-dividend dates after September 8, 2025 and through September 8, 2026. This selects four records. This article uses ex-dividend dates to define that window.
- Add their per-share amounts. The September 24, 2025, December 10, 2025, March 25, 2026 and June 24, 2026 records are $0.2604, $0.2782, $0.2569 and $0.2525 respectively. Thus $0.2604 + $0.2782 + $0.2569 + $0.2525 = $1.0480 per share. In the downloaded CSV's current order, these are cells D2:D5;
=SUM(D2:D5)reproduces the sum. Official records, preserved in the CSV - Divide by the dated market price. $1.0480 ÷ $34.41 × 100 = 3.045626…%. The $34.41 denominator is Schwab's displayed September 8 closing market price, not NAV or a guaranteed execution price. Schwab quote
- Convert the result into a planning amount. Multiply your share count by $1.0480 to express the trailing distributions for that many shares. Treat that figure as a historical reference. Using it for the next year requires the explicit assumption that future annual distributions repeat $1.0480 per share.
When updating the file, select the applicable dates again; the same cell addresses will not always represent the trailing year. Keep full precision through the calculation and round the displayed answer at the end.

| Question | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| What is the value of 100 shares at the quoted price? | 100 × $34.41 | $3,441.00 |
| How many shares does that amount represent? | $3,441 ÷ $34.41 | 100 shares |
| What was the March payment for 100 eligible shares? | 100 × $0.2569 | $25.69, payable March 30, 2026 |
| What was the June payment for 100 eligible shares? | 100 × $0.2525 | $25.25, payable June 29, 2026 |
| What do the trailing four payments total for 100 shares? | 100 × $1.0480 | $104.80 |
| What is the monthly budgeting equivalent? | $104.80 ÷ 12 | $8.73, rounded |
At the September 8, 2026 closing price of $34.41, 100 SCHD shares cost $3,441 and correspond to $104.80 of trailing cash distributions. That historical cash total assumes 100 eligible shares for each of the four distributions. Buying 100 shares now does not entitle you to those past payments.
The March and June payments on 100 eligible shares were $25.69 and $25.25; together they total $50.94, not a fixed quarterly payment repeated twice. These are calculated historical amounts, not estimates of the remaining year's distributions.
What does a $10,000 investment imply?
If fractional shares are available and the entire example budget is invested at $34.41:
- Shares = $10,000 ÷ $34.41 = 290.613193….
- Annual cash if the trailing per-share total repeats = ($10,000 ÷ $34.41) × $1.0480 = $304.56, rounded.
- Monthly budgeting equivalent = ($10,000 ÷ $34.41) × $1.0480 ÷ 12 = $25.38, rounded.
If only whole shares can be bought, round the share count down: 290 shares cost 290 × $34.41 = $9,978.90, leaving $10,000 − $9,978.90 = $21.10 uninvested. At the same assumed annual distribution, 290 × $1.0480 = $303.92. No income on the uninvested cash is assumed. Check your broker's fractional-share availability and your actual execution price.
The monthly figures are annual totals divided by 12. The dated records below show quarterly payments; they do not establish monthly deposits or equal quarterly amounts.
SEC yield, forward yield and the cash you actually receive
SEC yield measures a standardized annualized rate based on a 30-day period. It is not the sum of the four cash distributions used above. Schwab's SEC yield definition
A simple forward estimate repeats the latest payment. If SCHD paid the June amount four times, the assumed annual distribution would be $0.2525 × 4 = $1.0100 per share. At the same $34.41 price, the estimate is $1.0100 ÷ $34.41 × 100 = 2.935193…%, or 2.94% rounded. The multiplication by four is an assumption, not an announcement of four future payments. A cash receipt requires payment-level information. Our reconciliation method is:
Gross cash for a payment = shares eligible for that payment × declared distribution per share
Historical gross cash total = sum of those payment-level cash amounts
A 30-day SEC yield does not specify the dividend per share, the eligible share count, or the payable date needed to reconcile a SCHD cash receipt. This is the practical distinction drawn here from the standardized yield definition and the separate distribution records. Multiplying an account balance by SEC yield cannot verify an individual deposit. A latest-quarter annualization cannot verify it either. Yield and eligibility definitions · Distribution records
For income planning, apply these limits:
- Payment eligibility matters. Schwab states that purchases on or after the ex-date do not qualify for that distribution. Use the payable date to schedule the expected payment. Official date definitions
- Income can change. SCHD's underlying stocks can reduce or stop dividends, reducing the fund's income. Neither a trailing total nor the forward example guarantees future cash. Issuer risk disclosure
- Spending and reinvestment need separate records. These examples keep the share count fixed and assume no DRIP. With reinvestment, reconcile each payment and the shares actually purchased; do not treat reinvested dollars as both spending cash and additional invested principal. This is the accounting convention for the examples.
- Gross income is not take-home income. Taxes depend on the investor. No personal tax rate or after-tax payment has been supplied or calculated here. Schwab distribution and tax explanation
- Historical share units changed. SCHD underwent a 3-for-1 split effective October 10, 2024. The table preserves the original per-share amounts, including pre-split records. Do not compare them directly with post-split amounts as though the share unit were unchanged. All four payments used in the yield calculation are after the split. Official split notice
